Good morning!

After the summer break, I lost track of doing regular Deep Dives and Member Hot Seats. Today, I’d like to get back to scheduling Deep Dives again.

A Deep Dive is basically a brief presentation by me on a specific topic, followed by Q&A and a group discussion. I’d like to schedule them on Tuesday nights in between Hangouts.

I have a list of possible topics, but I’d like to make sure these events hit the spot for you. That’s why I’m asking you: What ~homework~ topic would you like to assign me to research and present? Is there something you’d love to learn more about, but just didn’t have the time? Let me kindle your curiosity!

I’m looking into docker and containers in general for my project right now; in particular, how to get code from my laptop into production. So that would be a helpful deep dive for me.

That’s something I’m more than happy to do as our next Deep Dive. I just need to check what the next possible date is.

What do you think about other foundational topics like Git or shell scripting? What would be useful to you?

Oh.. well…

  • Common production nginx configurations. I’ve really only used it for development and my little home server
  • Linux security: SELinux, AppArmor, others? I’m quite weak there.
  • I know nothing about Kubernetes
  • Applying certificates correctly for development and production.

As I think of more, I will add them.
